INTERBRAND TAKES lots of ingredients into account when ranking the world’s most valuable brands. To even qualify for the list, each brand must derive about a third of its earnings outside its home country, be recognizable outside of its base of customers, and have publicly available marketing and financial data. One or more of those criteria eliminate such heavyweights as Visa, Wal-Mart, Mars, and CNN.

Online video ads are meant for cheap laughs, but getting them onto the Net and influencing viewers is no joke. Companies are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to create humorous ads in hopes they’ll go “viral” — what it’s called when computer users spread content throughout the Internet via personal Web sites, blogs, and e-mails. The appeal of viral video has long been the potential to reach millions of viewers, without the hefty placement fees to media companies.

In terms of designing for the web, a Design Pattern can be defined as a repeatable solution to a commonly-occurring usability problem. Design Patterns can vary from being strict ideologies on how you should lay out code, to more general methodologies on how you can make interacting with a website more natural and less frustrating.

Digg Stack shows diggs occuring in real time on up to 100 stories at once. Diggers fall from above and stack up on popular stories. Brightly colored stories have more diggs.
Digg Swarm draws a circle for stories as they’re dugg. Diggers swarm around stories, and make them grow. Brightly colored stories have more diggs.
